The Batu Gajah District Council (MDBG) or Majlis Daerah Batu Gajah was founded on 1 September 1977 under the Local Government Act 1976 (Act 171). The latest MDBG administrative area totals approximately 41,920 hectares (104,800 acres), with a population of about 115,735. MDBG Administrative Centre is located at Bandar Batu Gajah and has two branch offices i.e. in Tronoh town and in Tg. Tualang town.
