History has recorded the first Credit Union is registered in The Postal & Telecommunications Co-operative Thrift & Loan Society, West Malaysia, Limited, which is registered on July 21, 1922. A large number of cooperative members are made up of employees of the Jabatan Perkhidmatan Pos dan Telekom and also from the Bank Simpanan Pejabat Pos staff (the name now the National Savings Bank). After a long time to establish kooperasi, on June 22, 1975, Jabatan Perkhidmatan Pos employees to apply for establish of cooperative itself, namely Koperasi Pos Nasional Berhad (KOPONAS).
