Jabatan Kesihatan Negeri Melaka or The Melaka State Health Department (JKNM) was established in 1934, led by Dr. S.P.Lupprian. Its objectives were to provide a health service promotion, prevention and basic care to the people especially the rural population to enable the whole community to obtain and enjoy the health facilities to encourage them to participate in the process of changing attitudes towards health lifestyles and to prevent the spread of diseases as well as keep them away from health hazards that can affect their social and economic life.
